Apple’s iPad Generates More Heat According to Tests

Expect a lot of costumers selling their used electronic gadgets such as iPads a few months after the release of the newest iterations. A group of consumers has conducted a test claiming that the latest iPad generates more heat than its previous model, supporting complaints that the tablet gets warm quickly after considerable use.

According to Consumer Reports, a reputable watchdog that reviews all sorts of electronics and machines, Apple’s newest outing of iPad generates about 116 degrees Fahrenheit (47 Celsius) after 45 minutes of heavy use, 13 degrees higher than the last version used at the same rate. This could drive a few consumers selling their used electronic gadgets so soon after its release.

The group used a camera with thermal imaging and identified the back and front sides of the iPad 3 throwing off 12 to 13 degrees higher than the previous iPad. Infinity Blade II, a downloadable apps game, was run on the tablet during the test.

Consumer Reports, which releases make-or-break reviews of electronic gadgets and products, is yet to make a final endorsement of iPad 3. The tablet’s high temperature generation, according to a spokesperson for the group, is not reason enough not to recommend the product but consumers are cautioned about the discomfort it may produce.

One of the reviewers, Donna Tapellini, said that the iPad 3 could get very warm in the hands during the test but do not get particularly bothersome if held only for a short time.

The iPad 3 was released internationally last March 16 and has sold more than 3 million tablets. The model broke a first-weekend sales record since it hit stores all over the world. The iPad is also the product most widely sold item among consumers who sell old electronic gadgets online.

Many commenters on Apple’s website have cited that the gadget gets too warm after heavy use. One of the major draws of this new iPad is its sharper “retina” resolution and a bigger battery than those of the previous iPads, promising more power.

Kyle Wiens, iFixit chief executive, said that the new iPad’s battery is 70% bigger than that of the last model. iFixit is a well known parts supplier and repair service for Apple. Wiens also said that both batteries have the same lifespan and the size of the new battery will certainly make it hotter.

Some commenters claimed that the iPad 3 got uncomfortably warm even when they were using it to surf the web to listen to Internet radio while accessing social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Some of these commenters may be ready to sell their used electronic gadgets online to places like Guzu.com.

A spokesperson from Apple however released a statement saying that the latest iPad was within their “thermal specifications,” which is the company’s normal operating capacity of somewhere between 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The tablet is made to turn off on the event the limit is broken.

The reviews of iPad 3 have been mostly positive even though the gadget has no truly innovative addition to its features. The latest iPad has more focus on the improvement of its display resolution and the tablet’s capacity to utilize 4G wireless technology.

Regardless, the new iPad 3 has been another bestseller and will continue to be one among tablet users who sell used electronic gadgets on the Internet.
